Every day reveals yet another reason for
removing Bush and Cheney from office. The first step in that process
is impeachment hearings in the House Judiciary Committee. Such
investigations will clarify which of Bush’s and Cheney’s actions are
crimes and/or violations of the Constitution, with impeachment as the
appropriate Constitutional way to address them. Past impeachments took
roughly two months (or less), during which other Congressional
business continued unimpeded.
The Founding Fathers put impeachment into
the Constitution for a purpose. Failing to use that tool now, when
many “high crimes and misdemeanors” are obvious, is an invitation to
more – and possibly worse – crimes between now and 2009, with terrible
precedents being set for the future.
